Product overview

For port logistics

For 65 years, AMOVA has been an expert in the storage and transport of heavy loads. We have successfully transferred this know-how to container terminal applications, adapting and optimizing our proven equipment and technologies.

High-bay storage systems (HBS)

The HBS is very modular and can be tailored to terminal needs for either brownfield or greenfield sites.

The basic element of the HBS is called an "aisle" and consists of two racks, with a rail system for the stacker cranes arranged between them. The HBS building consists of multiple aisles and can even be expanded step by step while the port is in operation.

Capacity and throughput are scalable by aisle length, number of aisles, and number of stacker cranes per aisle. With a high density multi-aisle arrangement, a storage capacity of over 160,000 TEUs per hectare per year can be achieved.

  • Rack system up to 50 meters high with 11 tiers
  • Weight-optimized design of the rack structure
  • Containers are stored in individual compartments
  • HBS is designed for a wide range of 20-, 40- and 45-foot ISO containers and for weights of up to 36 tons per container
  • The use of individual compartments allows direct access to any container at any time
  • No reshuffling of containers required
  • High performance independent of the utilization rate
  • HBS systems provide excellent efficiency even at utilization rates above 98% (the typical utilization rate of RTG or straddle carrier yards is significantly lower)
  • Performance is easily planned, predictable and constant

High sustainability

  • The HBS offers unmatched sustainability due to purely electrical driven equipment, power regeneration and minimized environmental impact
  • Solar power plant can be integrated in roof installation
  • High energy efficiency and minimized CO2 footprint

Stacker cranes

All container storage or retrieval movements are performed by stacker cranes.

The stacker cranes run on rails in the storage aisles. During travel, the containers are moved horizontally and vertically at the same time. The result: High storage and retrieval performance.

A pair of stationary racks at either end of each HBS aisle provide an efficient interface to the waterside horizontal transport system. The racks for receiving the containers are designed for 2 TEU’s and around 65 tons in weight. They are served by both the stacker cranes and the shuttle carriers. By using both racks, the stacker cranes can efficiently perform combined storage and retrieval movements, ensuring high throughput.

The stacker cranes are operated in fully automatic mode, all operations are controlled by AMOVA’s warehouse management system (WMS).

Pallet circulation systems

Underfloor transport system to connect the high-bay store (HBS) with the landside truck interface

The pallet circulation system operates independently of the movement of the stacker cranes and without affecting their performance. Main components are self-driven pallets (SDP) on rails and pallet shifting cars (PSC).

The pallets also serve as an additional buffer, decoupling the handling activities from the land and seaside. Throughput and buffer capacity can be controlled by the number of pallets.

  • Simple and modular design
  • Pallet length: approx. 12.3 m
  • Load capacity per pallet: max. 36 tons
  • Pallets designed for 20/40/45ft containers
  • The self-driven pallets are not bound to a fixed cycle; they can be moved individually as required.
  • The pallets are designed to carry one container at a time, which is placed centrally on the pallet.

Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)

With its extensive range of functions, the WMS is an attractive, reliable solution for automated material flow control and warehouse management.

When it comes to the user interface, our software developers attach particular importance to intuitive operability as well as optimized search and filter functions. Within seconds, the operator can view details about his stock and get information about the current system status.

A special highlight is the revised 3D view. Warehouse stock and container transports are visualized in real time – both the current transport situation and the warehouse itself can thus be viewed conveniently and visually appealing.

The focus of AMOVA’s WMS is to enable highest throughputs in a fully automatic way. If future operations are defined in advance, the system uses this information to optimize transport and storage strategies. The scalable client-server architecture allows our customers flexible use and high-performance access to the WMS data. AMOVA's WMS can be adapted to the most diverse applications and can be easily integrated into IT landscapes such as TOS environments.
